Yes! or what about The Spa Hall, at Bridlington, now that's been done up?

Aw I'd go there, I used to ballroom dance in it! It's a sweet little place but not very rock & roll |

It is sweet, isn't it? and very nice after its recent refurb ... we could MAKE it rock & roll! Prodigy played there in January and I wouldn't have associated them with tiny little Brid Spa |

i wouldnt complain about a day out at Brid lol its my end of coastline but on my doorstep in Leeds would be absolutely perfect! its about time they returned to Leeds - when was the last time they played the festival there??! id settle for leeds festival too! ive done plenty of travelling in the last 5yrs seeing these boys cos leeds is denied of an arena!! |

Didn't Oasis play a warm up show at Bridlington??
I think the last time Phonics played Leeds was Leeds Fest in 2000?? TEN YEARS AGO!
Come on, we've waited long enough! Plus Kelly could tie it in with going to watch Leeds |

really???!! i had no idea!! lol!
of course i did lol! sorry for the sarcasm! i couldnt resist but i appreciate you showing me! bless ya for thinking of me!
being from leeds and liking concerts ive watched this space for a VERY long time lol - wanted an arena in leeds since TT's heyday! theres been loads of petitions etc over the yrs and its only the last yr or so that its actually got a bit serious! about time! ive been rather tempted to go to Leeds City Council and say look do you realise how much money Leeds is missing out on from not having an arena?! its not just the gig tickets its the hotels etc!!
its supposed to be 2012 from what i last heard - i wait with patience! but as it currently stands we are still denied of an arena until its finally complete!
in the meantime o2 academy is supposed to be a nice little venue boys!! ive been also tempted to have words with chris moyles! its ok going to bloody leeds matches with him and introducing Kaiser chiefs on stage when they played elland rd but i think its about time he spoke to the boys and got em up here!
i thought it was somert like 2000 they last played leeds festival! oasis did play Brid which i didnt know about and wish i hadnt missed! i had no idea Brid spa held gigs like that! so yea if Brid can do it lol so can leeds!! |

Ahh sorry, I thought because you said Leeds didn't have one that you didn't know it was going on. It is about time though! Leeds has always supported small acts but with the arena it can get local bands doing big support slots there and it will hopefully get as much of a status as Manchester in terms of being a good/big/serious place to play gigs...and hopefully stop bands playing Manc and not Leeds! Even the bands doing the smaller venues seem to miss Leeds off sometimes, hopefully the arena will show that Leeds attracts a big music scene.
Definitely think it will be a good chance for Stereophonics to play there when it's built too, all the current venues are either too big or too small so the arena should be perfect for them. |

Birmingham can be a bit like that at times, and we've got the NIA. So many bands choose Manchester over Birmingham, which is in fact the second city, and it's really annoying!
It's no good them playing in Wolverhampton cos it's really awkward to get to! |

dont be sorry lol i was just having a laugh with ya!
i seem to have a habbit of missing ppl i want to see at the o2 which is annoying! im going to watch BRMC there and looking forward to being at a gig at home, get pissed, get a taxi lol and recover in my own bed!
i have no prob going elsewhere its somewhere different to go but its sometimes the travelling side of it i dread running after trains and getting certain 1s cos you had to book a specific 1 to get it cheaper - it creates stress and sometimes you just think FFS i cant be bothered! half the time i dont look forward to the gig until ive checked into the hotel/got sorted in the room and then i look forward to it! its just so nice to relax and go to 1 at home and not have to worry about last trains cos you dont need 1!
it will be good for Leeds though its the only major nothern city in england that doesnt have 1 apparently. we have the odd huge gig like robbie at roundhay park/kaiser chiefs at elland rd and then the festival but thats it other than the smaller venues of which theres a few good 1s. when you have to go elsewhere regularly it gets annoyng cos a gig ends up costing more than just a ticket and it can be expensive - it'd be nice to save the money for once and annual leave cos you have to take time off to spend time getting there! |

We do need somewhere bigger round Leeds way - we live on the east coast (hence my "Brid Spa" post) and we have to travel everywhere ... it just gets to be a bind sometimes because we can't just nip out to see a band and then home, or whatever.
One of my best mates lives at Leeds and I do envy him - they have quite a few venues over there (Cockpit, Academy etc) sometimes I wish we lived somewhere with a bit more choice, for all I like living at the seaside.
Like catmagoo says, it's the stress of either the last train back, staying overnight (and sometimes you don't want or can't afford the added expense) or a long drive back home very late.
Ah well! The new Leeds venue might yet be finished being built, in my lifetime |
